Balustrades & Handrails

As with Stair design, there are many Balustrade design options available.  Whether you are looking for a hand crafted timber balustrade to match your stairs, considering a modern and contemporary finish featuring frameless glass or possibly minimalist wire, we will work with you to create something beautiful and unique.

Timber

Timber balustrades usually match the timber of the stairs or can be painted to suit the house design. There are various options available for decorative posts and top rails.

Timber and Wire

For a more minimalist balustrade design, timber with horizontal wire infill is a popular option. Typically it involves timber posts and top rails with timber spacers approximately every 1-1.3m

Please note you cannot have horizontal wire balustrade where the fall is 4m or more.

Timber & Aluminium

For a modern, contemporary look, timber posts, top and bottom rails with powder-coated aluminium vertical baluster infill is a popular choice.

Glass

There are various options available for glass balustrade.

Timber and Glass provides for timber posts, top and bottom rails with glass panel infill.

Frameless Glass Balustrade is fixed on standoff pins to the void, stringer or treads (if centre stringer) with a top or side fixed rail, (stainless steel, powder-coated aluminium or timber). An alternative to stand-off pins is fixing the glass panels with spiggots to floor on level void glass.

Timber Screens

Timber screens are often used beside the stairs as an alternative to balustrade and can either go from the floor to the ceiling, or attached beside the stair stringer to the ceiling. Again these are usually made from timber matching the stairs. Sometimes timber screens are used as room dividers.

Grab Rails & Brackets

Grab rails are a typical safety requirement to ensure you have a continuous hold going up and down stairs. They are necessary for compliance and certification. Usually timber, there are various profiles available to compliment your stair design.

Brackets are used to fix your grab rail to the wall. We stock locally made brackets which are either zinc powder-coated in satin, black or white and 304 grade stainless steel in satin finish.
