Timber

With timber balustrades, the balustrade usually matches the timber of the stairs. There are a few different options:

  1. All timber: timber posts, top and bottom rail and vertical balusters.
  2. Timber and aluminium: timber posts, top and bottom rail and vertical aluminium balusters.
  3. Timber and wire: timber posts and top rail with stainless steel wire infill.
  4. Timber and glass: timber posts top and bottom rail with panels of glass.

Wire

Often there is a call for balustrade that has a minimalist look without having to clean glass panels, and an option for that is wire balustrade fixed horizontally, generally spread across two optional type posts:

  1. Timber posts, with smaller timber upright spacers in between approximately evenly spread every 1-1.3m.
  2. Metal posts, (either stainless steel or aluminium), with same metal upright spacers, sometimes smaller in between approximately evenly spread every 1-1.3m.

Please note you can’t have horizontal wire balustrade where the fall is 4m or more.

Glass

Frameless Glass Balustrade: With frameless glass balustrade there are generally two options:

  1. Frameless Glass on Standoff Pins: Toughened glass panels side fixed to either stair void, stringer or treads (if centre stringer) with a top or side fixed rail, (stainless steel, powdercoated aluminium or timber).
  2. Frameless Glass on Metal Spiggots: Toughened glass panels on metal apiggots to floor or treads with a top or side fixed rail, (stainless steel, powdercoated aluminium or timber).

Stainless Steel / Aluminium

Stainless Steel Balustrade: With stainless steel balustrade the options are:

  1. Stainless steel and glass: stainless steel posts and top rails with glass Panels.
  2. Stainless steel and wire: stainless steel posts and top rails with stainless steel wire infill

Powdercoated Aluminium Balustrade: with aluminium balustrade the options are:

  1. All aluminium: aluminium posts, top and bottom rail and vertical balusters.
  2. Aluminium and glass: aluminium posts, top and bottom rail and panels of glass.
  3. Aluminium and wire: aluminium posts, top and bottom rail and stainless steel wire infill.

Grab Rails & Brackets

Grab Rails: Grab rails may be required beside the stairs to make it easier for getting up and down the stairs. They usually consist of a timber rail, (matching the stairs) in a variety or different profiles to suit your design and décor, and brackets to fix to the walls. The wall brackets usually are either in cast steel or stainless steel and there are many styles to choose from.

Rail Brackets: We stock locally made rail brackets which are either in 304 grade stainless steel satin finish or manufactured from zinc, with a neutral salt spray test for 100 hours to ensure resistance to corrosive attack on the bracket surface.

Timber Screens

Timber screens are often used beside the stairs as an alternative to balustrade and can either go from the floor to the ceiling, or attached beside the stair stringer to the ceiling. Again these are usually made from timber matching the stairs. Sometimes timber screens are used as room dividers.
